I’m not worried about being unable to improve. I’m not doing poorly, but not where I need to be to get a good rating for the year. Never promoted to Senior, moved to L5 Software Development ManagerĮ6 (Staff at similar places), made it ~1 year, didn’t succeed Software Development Engineer (L5, above entry level, below Senior) Software Engineer (lowest of ~5 total levels) Second company (public, but niche, acquired by larger public company, ~50-70 engineers total): I have talked about the full path I’ve been on before, but may have sort of avoided where things didn’t actually go well, and how my moves between roles and companies have left a bit of a gap.įirst company (private, eventually acquired by a public company, ~20-25 engineers total): I had a conversation with my manager about improving my impact and getting to the standard for L6/Staff. I am still borderline in terms of succeeding as a Staff engineer.
